Dear
Prospective Undergraduate Student:
I
am very happy you decided to visit our website and hope it will
be useful to you. The Watson School offers undergraduate degree
programs designed to prepare students to enter engineering professions,
engage in life-long learning, become responsible, ethical, contributing
members of society. To this end, Watson School curricular provide
foundations for understanding the social and business implications
of engineering work, developing communication skills that enable
students to communicate ideas and processes to a wide range of
people, to work effectively in teams, and to assume leadership
roles in solving emerging global problems. Faculty members who
design Watson School curricular are both outstanding teachers
and scholars who engage in on-going professional development to
ensure continued enhanced quality of our academic programs.
Students
in all four years of the undergraduate CS programs from the freshman
to the senior years gain a wide exposure to all aspects of computing
and its pervasive nature, which often span other disciplines.
The Computer Science students are well prepared for a wide range
of challenging roles through our curriculum and through a long-established
and very successful internship and co-op program with the industry.
A
vast network of support for students is available in the Watson
School for engineering freshmen through the Division of Engineering
Discovery and Design. The mission of this division is to provide
all students the opportunity to develop the skills required to
be successful both as students and tomorrow's leaders - no matter
the final profession they pursue. Tutoring and mentoring are available
to assist students.
The
Office of Student Services, working closely with the faculty,
provides effective advising and counseling. Internships, opportunities
to apply what you learn in the classroom to "real-life"
situations help the learning process and also help prepare students
for careers. Honors and scholarships are also awarded to eligible
students through this office.
Through
the Binghamton Success Program, the Watson School endeavors to
increase the number of under-represented minorities in computer
science and engineering by providing mentoring, tutoring, and
scholarship opportunities for eligible students.
The
Watson School offers outstanding educational opportunities, and
administrators, faculty, and staff are dedicated to continually
enhancing our academic programs. We are committed to providing
a challenging academic experience that is diverse and intellectually
stimulating: One that will provide the knowledge and inspire the
passion needed to work creatively to make the world a better place.
We look forward to your joining us in this educational endeavor.
Best
wishes,
C. Robert Emerson
