Dean's Message

Charles R. Westgate
Dean

Please accept my welcome to the Watson School and to the remarkable education and research programs that we offer. Our five academic departments offer seven outstanding undergraduate degree programs, all ABET accredited, and our graduate programs attract a large number of students to our master's and doctoral programs. Our faculty engage in research at the leading edges of technology and have established a unique relationship with industry in our region. Please explore our web site to see the many exciting opportunities we offer to students, industry, and to our community.

As you learn more about the Watson School, please consider the following five significant characteristics:

  • The Watson School recruits the most talented students at SUNY Binghamton, one of the leading public universities in the United States. Our students learn in an exciting community of students and faculty, and they share their energy and enthusiasm to enhance the experience of all students on this campus.

  • Our students are our most important constituency. Our efforts are focused on preparing them for success through formal coursework, student activities and organizations, internships and meaningful summer employment, and opportunities for creativity, teamwork, and leadership. The success of our alumni is a refection of the quality of our students and our faculty and of the programs we offer.

  • The Watson School is part of a wonderful university that offers many opportunities for students to explore their individual interests and develop their talents. Students benefit from the University's strong commitment to the liberal arts and acquire the cultural references and perspectives essential to success.

  • The Watson School has established strong relationships with industry that benefit both our research and education programs. Our research centers, particularly the Integrated Electronics Engineering Center, and our engineering extension program, SPIR, play vital roles in supporting industry and in connecting our education programs to real-world challenges.

  • The Binghamton area is a wonderful environment for our university: beautiful, accessible, rich in history and culture, and safe. The wooded hillsides above the valleys provide an ideal setting for enriched educational and extracurricular experiences. Centrally located, Binghamton is less than three hours from New York and Philadelphia, and less than 300 miles from all of the northeast region.
